Can you start by telling us a bit more about yourself?
My name is Dave, I’m Orca’s Infrastructure Specialist and I’ve been working here a little over 6 months. A fun fact about myself is that I can play the drums!
Could you explain a little bit of what your role includes on a day-to-day basis?
My role as Infrastructure Specialist can be one that is quite varied, both working directly with clients as well as internally across a range of different departments.
Recently, I’ve worked quite closely with our Projects team across various migration projects, a recent example of this would be where we’ve moved a client from Windows Server 2012 to 2019. Part of my role with this is ensuring this transition is done with efficiency, making life as easy as possible for our client.
I’m often involved as a point of escalation for our 2nd and 3rd Line teams. Our setup allows us to use our specialists (in my case, being infrastructure and security) to allow our team to work to their strengths, therefore coming to an effective solution for our clients as soon as possible.
A final part of my role involves the security of client data. This is something I’ve had experience with in the past, although will continue to learn more about as technology continues to evolve.
How do you contribute to achieving our values of delivering a fast, high-quality service to our clients?
As an escalation point for 2nd Line, 3rd Line and all other departments, a large part of my role as a specialist is to try and optimise our processes to come to a timely solution for our client. I always try and encourage anyone from within our team to come and ask me a question, especially if it’s something specifically infrastructure-related.
We’ve many experts across our teams, and I feel the way we communicate with each other to extract knowledge and come up with the best possible solution is a huge strength of ours.
What do you think we do differently that helps us stand out as an industry-leading managed service provider?
Across my career, I’ve worked for multiple managed service providers and internal IT departments, and as I always feedback to our Directors, I’ve never worked for one which is as well organised as Orca.
We’ve got so much documentation about our processes and the most effective way to solve issues. So many SOPs and procedures set out which makes it so much easier for people to work efficiently, whether they’re new to the business or have been here for years.
It’s exactly how an MSP should be ran!
What do you enjoy most about working at Orca as a whole?
I’ve only been here 6 months and everything is still quite new, but one thing that has really stood out to me is the fact that everyone is pulling in the same direction. The vast majority of places I’ve worked in the past, there’s always a handful of people who’re wanting to go in a different direction.
At Orca, this isn’t the case, everyone works together and there’s a real feeling that people really do want to help each other, which really contributes to our success as a team.
